Portobello Soul is all about showcasing the Portobello Experience in all its magnificent diversity
Portobello Soul celebrated the spirit, consciousness and ethnic diversity of the area by putting on live bands and DJs, drawn from all cultural corners of London who truly live the W10 ethic.
Organised by Portobello Radio. the festival took place in some of the area’s finest watering holes and live venues; the festival wasn’t just about soul music but more about expressing the soul of the area through culture – featuring almost every ethnic group from this community – all of whom have seen their own ups an down of late what with Grenfell, gentrification, rent and rate rises. As such, they need every opportunity to be able to realise their own worth.
Portobello Radio celebrated the rich cultural and ethnic diversity that is the Portobello Road – W10, W11 – vicinity and served as a hub of the community broadcasting its events, offers, news views and developments. Thus, our DJs represented every sector of the neighbourhood and its music hailing from Latin America, Morocco, West Indies, Africa, Ireland and Britain.
We wanted to make people proud of their neighbourhood, eager to invite their cousins to cross London to sample our flavours.
